Education

The Forest of Mercia uses the natural environment to provide people of all ages with an inspiring and stimulating backdrop for learning and development. The team provides educational opportunities for children and adults alike to encourage a greater interest and understanding of the environment and to provide an effective alternative to a formal education setting.
Twiglets

Currently there are regular sessions of Twiglets taking place in Norton Canes, every Wednesday morning (in school term time) from 9.30am - 11.00am at the Children's Centre. Sessions to date have proven to be very popular and themes have included farming, things that fly, weather, deserts and leaves.  The aim of the initiative is to give the youngsters and their carers a variety of craft ideas and small projects that they can complete and take home and foster an interest in the environment.

These regular sessions are funded through Staffordshire Children's Services

Forest Schools

The Forest of Mercia, in conjunction with Groundwork, organised a series of training days for pupils from middle schools in South Staffordshire.  There were several long running projects on the go at any one time and some additional one-day activities as well

Students enjoyed the hands on approach and it was very pleasing that the participants were able to complete a coracle and float it, showing that it could take 100kg of weight.  Part of the success of the Project was that people with varying backgrounds and from different schools were able to get on together and work as a team.
